THE ART AND THE BIBLE

The Norwegian Bible Society, The National Museum and the organization Leser søker bok (translated; Reader seeks book) have developed an accessible bible for people who deal with cognitive impairment and/or dementia. Each passage of scripture has been paired up with a curated artwork from the collection of the National Museum.

The book was to be experienced both as a traditional bible and a contemporary art book, and to entirely follow Universal Design principles. Therefore the size of the book, the canvas structure and the swiss-binding were all ergonomic choices, making the book easy to hold for older hands and to read. The strict layout and typography tied it all nicely together in a manner that was consistent and easy to navigate.
